Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
BACK TO SERVICES MAIN

Many people know or have heard about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in childhood because of the social and educational difficulties children, particularly boys, have in school. More unfamiliar is Attention Deficit Disorder without hyperactivity most commonly found in girls. Both forms, if not diagnosed in childhood, can go undiagnosed in adulthood, as hyperactivity tends to diminish with age even though the other symptoms remain.

Symptoms of ADD without hyperactivity in adults are:
 1. Complaints that they read but it does not register
 2. Frustrated over inability to organize
 3. Poor time management
 4. Problems prioritizing
 5. Misplaces belongings
 6. Easily distracted
 7. Prefers multi-tasking
 8. Inefficient
 9. Is perceived as a “dreamer” or just plain lazy or stupid
10. Irritable or quick to anger
11. Blurts out rude/insulting thoughts
12. Impulsively changes jobs
13. Reckless driving
14. Impulsive sexuality
15. Quits new projects
16. Unstable, unhappy relationships

A glance at the symptom list shows how difficult relationships, careers, and daily routines might be for individuals with this disorder. Frustration abounds in this person as well as people they interact with in their personal and professional lives.

In addition, adults with ADHD have a higher incidence of substance abuse, lower occupational achievements, more marital problems and a higher incidence of separation and divorce.

ADHD is not a moral failing but a neurological disorder. Whether you choose to take medication or not, support and coaching will help you.

You do not have to struggle with this disorder in isolation or be alone in your frustration. I am available for coaching and support to help you identify what does not work for you, teach you the skills you need whether it is communication, organization, acquiring and keeping positive relationships, giving up negative and unproductive behavior, seeking and finding the pleasure and success you have not been able to attain on your own. You can develop a positive self-image, a happier, more productive life through coaching and support.
